The reconstruction and expansion of LKH Bregenz represents a significant advancement in ensuring sustainable regional healthcare provision at a high medical standard. The pivotal urban planning concept involves integrating the existing isolated building structure into the surrounding environment through new constructions, characterized by a generous architectural gesture. This is realized in the initial phase with the East Wing. The existing access ramp to the underground car park will be retained, and the car park itself will be expanded to include a direct connection to the basement level of the new building. The helipad is situated as an additional storey above the main building, providing direct access to the new central stairwell and the patient lifts located within. The facade is characterized by expansive window elements, designed to optimize views and external connectivity from the patient rooms. The opaque facade sections are clad with translucent glass panels. The primary structure of the new building was conceived as a steel frame construction, incorporating flat concrete slabs and reinforced concrete shear walls for bracing.
