Clay Facade Residential Building in Buchs

The four-story residential building, constructed from recycled concrete, features a self-supporting facade made of prefabricated rammed-earth elements. These are anchored to a vertical wooden substructure, which also serves as the insulation layer. Vertically adjustable fasteners allow the facade to accommodate the shrinkage and creep deformations of the rammed-earth facade. The rammed earth facade was constructed by Lehm Ton Erde. Wehandled the design calculations for the rammed earth and the anchoring to the building structure.

Working closely with all stakeholders, a building was created that consistently relies on natural materials and avoids the use of synthetic and composite materials. The structure is carefully integrated into the neighborhood and combines ecological responsibility with structural and design clarity. The combination of recycled concrete, wood, and clay defines the architectural expression and gives the building a presence that is both archaic and contemporary. The handcrafted façade draws on regional building traditions and translates them into a contemporary design language.
